My Story

Behind every piece of furniture is a passion for the craft. I didn’t start making these tables to compete with mass-produced assembly lines or factory-sprayed furniture. I started because I believe that the objects we live with should have character and a story of their own.

My journey began over twenty years ago when I bought a new house. Wanting to make the space truly feel like home, I decided to try my hand at building some custom built-in furniture. I put together a modest collection of tools—though I have to admit, that collection isn’t so modest anymore—and began learning the art of creating fine furniture from scratch. What started as a practical project turned into a lifelong obsession with the craft. Over the last two decades, I have dedicated myself to mastering the nuances of wood, design, and construction, evolving from those early built-ins to the specialized pieces I create today.

Along the way, I fell deeply in love with mid-century modern design. There is something incredibly striking about the clean lines, organic shapes, and minimalist elegance of that era. One of my greatest design influences is the legendary master woodworker Sam Maloof. Although I never had the opportunity to meet him before he passed, his philosophy profoundly shaped my view of what furniture can be. Living and working not too far from his historic home and workshop, I’ve had the privilege of visiting his lovely historic home and shop a number of times. My respect for his legacy is absolute. His designs are flawless, his eye for perfect proportion is unmatched, and his ability to make hard lines flow organically is a standard I constantly strive toward in my own work.

That organic fluid style pairs beautifully with my favorite material: walnut. I love everything about it. Visually, it brings an awesome, rich color and an unmistakable natural glow to a room. From a craftsman’s perspective, it machines beautifully. It sits at the perfect sweet spot of hardness—it doesn’t fight your tools like rock-hard maple, yet it holds an edge beautifully unlike soft pine. It even smells lovely when it is being cut and shaped in the shop. Most importantly, it takes a finish like no other wood on earth.

Every single piece that leaves my workshop is entirely handmade by me, one at a time. I put a piece of myself into every build. From selecting the wood to the meticulous, time-consuming process of hand-applying five separate coats of oil, I don’t take shortcuts. It takes a significant amount of time, but when you look down at the smooth, natural sheen of the finished wood, the results speak for themselves. This isn’t just a business for me; it is twenty plus years of passion, patience, and workshop experience built into functional art that is meant to be a part of your home for a very long time.
